Dev Log 2 - Pitching a Game

Following the research portion, I went about pitching a game called "Dispatch".

The main idea behind "Dispatch" is to create a serious game that is a narrative driven puzzle-simulator game, that follows a 911 Operator's shift over the course of a week. This idea was pitched to be a mix between "Papers Please" and "Five Nights at Freddy's", to mix  hybrid of documentation and reference information from monitors, much like a 911 Operator would. The main take-away from creating a serious game with this narrative was to highlight the overworked, and under-supported conditions that 911 operators work within,.

After pitching this game, I discovered from critiques that this idea was not a novel one, and was cautioned to potentially stay away from considering this idea as a pitch. Knowing now that there are other simulator games that follow this narrative, if I were to follow through on this idea I would have to do a lot of market research to ensure the viability of the game. Instead, as the pitches wrapped up, I am looking forward to working on other games that were pitched by peers during this process.

Overall I would say this pitching process was a great learning experience in ensuring that ideas are thoroughly researched prior to making a pitch proposal, as often times the ideas that are ideated are not unique, and have already been done before in one manner or another.
